Hmm, wonder how large their coverage will be and whether it will be English-only. Here in Mali we get CNN and Euronews both in English and French and also regional TV programmes from Mali and other African countries, plus African versions of French and Swiss TV (TV5). I also guess the CNBC thing will depend on what satellite package African countries negotiate.

Ok, we can see the hoopla about Africa , first MTV Africa, Al jazaeira Africa, TV5 Africa,Canal plus Horizon Africa, CNBC Africa.
Tele3A sud. The African consumer of televised media is well served and there is still room for some more players.
What we need to know is how is it going to benefit the Downstream playersof the media, entertainment industry.
Are we going to see productions made by African intermediaries, Commercials made by African companies ?
These ventures need to impact us in a deeper economic way, we need to be able to communicate through them to one another but more importantly we need to share in the profits
Should we take the telecommuncation industry as a fair sign?

Well, that sounds great. I understand here
that CNBC-Africa will be free-to-air (i.e., on
satellite). Since only a small percentage of
Africans can receive satellite TV (or can afford
to purchase satellite receivers), I hope you
plan to partner with terestrial broadcasting
stations to trainsmit in UHF and/or VHF too.
In my city we receive CNN and BBC this way
daily. Thanks.

Great news. While this is an intiative from the west, the coverage for African news should reflect African Business and economic coverage by Africans and not the usual one-sided view of the west with regards to what really goes on in Africa. Otherwise the other networks are already taking care of this.
